What is the Coffee Hero Program?
Coffee Heroes are generous people in Ottawa (and across Canada) who volunteer to sell bags of Francesco’s organic, shade-grown, fairly traded coffee to help raise funds for the Canadian International Learning Foundation and our programs.
What would I need to do?
Just send us an e-mail at staff@canilf.org and tell us you want to become a Coffee Hero – we’ll provide the order forms and provide you with posters, brochures, and other advertising material. All you need to tell your friends and family about the wonderful coffee you have for sale. When you have orders for around 10 – 20 bags of coffee, let us know and we’ll place the order and arrange for shipping. Once the order comes in, distribute to friends and family. There’s no ongoing commitment – every order makes a huge difference!
Do I need to pay you for the coffee?
Coffee Heroes are asked to pay after the order has been delivered, but we do ask that you provide a credit card number (or some form of deposit) before we deliver the coffee. We will only charge your credit card (or keep your deposit) if you do not provide us with funds after the coffee has been delivered. If you’d prefer not to collect money directly from family or friends, we can arrange for them to pay online, instead.
Is there any kind of recognition program?
Yes! We provide small gifts to Coffee Heroes at key milestones (e.g. 20 bags, 40 bags, etc.) and also recognize their contribution through special events in Ottawa and via this website.
Do I need to pay full price for the coffee?
To say ‘thank-you’ for your service, Coffee Heroes can purchase coffee for themselves at CDN$10 per bag, a substantial savings over the regular price.
How much does the coffee cost?
We ask that the coffee be sold for CDN$18 per pound, which is the same that price charged at Francesco’s Coffee Company. We can arrange for special pricing (e.g. Student prices) if required. Just let us know.
How much goes to charity? What kind of difference does it make?
Francesco’s has given us an excellent price for the coffee – approximately half of the CDN$18 per bag goes to charity. For both our Afghan School Project and Uganda Literacy and Education Program, the funds raised from a single bag of coffee are enough to send a student to school for more than a week.
We also use a portion of coffee sales toward the Learning Foundation’s administrative costs – this is our main source of administrative funds, and allows us to use 100% of all funds for our educational projects.
Sounds great! Where do I sign up?
Just send an e-mail to staff@canilf.org and tell us you want to join the Coffee Heroes program. We’ll take care of the rest!
